“Maker in China” SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest 2019 – Hong Kong Chapter“Maker in China” SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest 2019 – Hong Kong Chapter was jointly organised by the China Centre for Promotion of SME Development , Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Department of Education and Technology of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, attracted more than 90 innovative and entrepreneurial projects, submitted by more than 80 PhDs and university professors, and had successfully attracted investment intentions totalling HK$60 million. Hong Kong representatives were also ranked in the top 10 in the global contest.

Explore the needs of enterprises in innovation and technology

The organizing committee of the Contest visited various business associations and a number of enterprises to understand the innovative technology needs and investment budget of the enterprises. 10 Hong Kong enterprises were invited to participate in the innovative projects and had successfully attracted investment intentions of HK$60 million.

Seminar on Investment Needs of Technology Solutions for Local Enterprises
At the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Chapter held at Cyberport on 29 August, 10 Hong Kong companies were invited to share details of their investment needs in innovation and technology. “Novus”, the 2018 Hong Kong Chapter Winner and Global Champion, shared their developments and opportunities after receiving the awards.

Briefing sessions

Three briefing sessions were held at the Hong Kong Science Park, The University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong respectively to share the award-winning projects of the past competition and introduce the technology needs of enterprises.

Semi-final, top ten projects were selected

Semi-finals was held at Angel Investment Foundation. 11 industry experts and professors were invited to serve as judges. The top 10 projects were selected for the final.

Visiting Hong Kong Science Park and the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute

The representatives from Angel Investment Foundation and the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer of the HKSAR came into contact with the representatives of the government and business community from Mainland China to visit the Hong Kong Science Park and the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute.

Hong Kong Chapter Final

Final was held at Cyberport on 6 November. The contest was also one of the highlights of Cyberport’s annual flagship event, the Venture Capital Forum (CVCF), which attracted nearly 200 business and innovative technology investors to attend.

Forum Guests Sharing
Before the final, a forum namely “Corporate Innovation Investment Summit – Invest in Technovation to Drive Business Continuity” was hosted by Ms. Alice So, Head of the Cyberport EntrepreneurGroup. Four forum guests shared how companies can seize opportunities in this time of innovation and entrepreneurship by the masses. Cooperating with start-ups, how can start-ups seize opportunities to accelerate commercialisation through enterprises, and how can investors seize opportunities to capture investment opportunities.
